Welcome to the first ever Newcastle Improv Festival this summer!
Huge amounts of fun to be had day-and-night for grown-ups and for kids.
From Saturday 27th July to Sunday 4th August, Newcastle Improv Festival will be packed full of performances, workshops and activities in comedy, theatre, song, dance and film, with the art of improvisation at its core. That’s 30+ events of sheer unalloyed pleasure from 30+ brilliant local and national artists, here to give you the best time.
Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th July
The first weekend of the festival launches in the Ouseburn area at the Cumberland Arms and Seven Stories.
Tuesday 30th July to Sunday 4th August
Then, Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle becomes our festival hub, open from 11am to late-at-night, with satellite daytime events at the Stand Comedy Club, Seven Stories and Jurys Inn.
What's On at Newcastle Improv Festival?
The Suggestibles (who play host and appear in different forms throughout), Suki Webster (of Paul Merton’s Improv Chums) and her show Guest Speaker, Pippa Evans (of Showstoppers! fame), Stella Duffy OBE (leading a writer’s masterclass), Dragprov Revue (awesome duo from Oxford), Jason Perez and Couch (US improv coach and his performance troupe Couch from Glasgow).
Beccy Owen’s Pop-up Choir, Bboy Doke and Ken Masters of Bad Taste Cru (leading hip-hop workshops in dance and rap), and Laughter Yoga from Melissa Murphy. Local improv troupes Spontaneous Wrecks and Open Heart Theatre, Rat Race and 4 1 Night Only from School of Improv, NerdFest Podcast live on-stage, and a brilliant array of actors and improvisers from Newcastle’s booming improv scene.
There’s workshops for beginners, enthusiasts and pros, take-part activities and jams. The festival culminates in the 4 Hour Film Challenge which will see 12 teams of filmmakers and 24 actors charging around the city to make their mini masterpieces.
