Hong Kong Phooey
One of our signature games that packs a punch, adapted for our online classes - played mean, keen and fast! Start with some simple attacks, then block solidly, and spin off into special moves and props. It's all in the response! (Hong Kong Phooey originated in one of our classes for teens back in '06!)
Players listen closely and tag in with their fleeting thoughts. (So-called as the players can shout 'help!' if they get stuck & need another to take over) We're so pleased one of our favourite improv warm-up games translates this well to online classes. It's a great in so may ways. We use it as stimulus for scenes or long-form, develop into solo stand-up style improv, and at its just dandy for getting to know each other as well. Its not a well-mannered game - interrupt the moment you have a thought and riff off each other.
Help with Faces
We've combined 'Help!'and 'Mirrors' to create this great improv game. One player mutes and the others follow their gestures whilst tagging in with their fleeting thoughts. It helps players who tend to over-think and are resistant to tagging in, as the physicality and silliness releases their spontaneity.
