[Excerpt] Thank-you letter to The Suggestibles following our Improvised Shakespeare performance at The Globe in 2005

“I was exhausted with laughing so much during the show, but was so deeply happy inside. So much brilliant irreverent creation and imagination from you all."

Mark Rylance, Artistic Director, Shakespeare's Globe 1995-2005

"Yet the Suggestibles are extremely serious about the art of fooling around. Since their formation, four years ago at Newcastle Live Theatre, the company has become one of the hottest comedy tickets in the north-east. They even had a short film shown at this year's BAFTAs, and will be presenting a fully improvised "instant musical" at Northern Stage, Newcastle, this week: responding to audience suggestions, they will attempt to create a brand new West End musical every night.

Despite the burgeoning profile, the group sometimes feel their edgy work is looked down on by more "legitimate" forms of theatre. "Improvisation doesn't really get full credit as an art form in its own right," says Kitching [Suggestibles member]. "It's assumed that something spur-of-the-moment doesn't have lasting value. Yet teaching someone how to think on their feet is far more useful than teaching them how to act."

It is striking to see how quickly a few simple games and techniques can transform truculent teenagers into enthusiastic and enterprising problem-solvers."

School of Improv members of our workshops in our monthly participation shows at Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle

"These workshops go beyond improvisation, they help you decipher life, cultivate a creative approach in which you learn acceptance and how to say 'yes'. Failure too is always an option meaning your success is built on having a go not necessarily being the best! This may be the best life learning workshop you ever attend."

"We were from a different country using a different language, but with Bev and the magic of Improv, we became a whole and broke all the barriers we have on our daily life."

Bev Fox and Ian McLaughlin, and our core company of Suggestibles' artists will be performing at NiF, and leading several workshops and participatory shows.
