THE SUGGESTIBLES

Life doesn't have a script, and neither do we. We improvise. We make shows up. Spontaneously. On-the-spot. In a nutshell, we take ideas from you, the audience, and play them out into wildly theatrical, and furiously funny, far-reaching conclusions. Take a look at the Suggestibles' audience reviews. You'll find one of our improv comedy shows in Newcastle pretty much every week. We’ve four residencies. As the Suggestibles, we play the Stand Comedy Club and Cumberland Arms (our home venue for 16-years) each month, and we present other monthly improv shows at Alphabetti Theatre and Bobiks, which feature new and emerging improvisers. Then, at Christmas, The Suggestibles perform our infamous Impro Pantso at Northern Stage and take it on tour to Northeast theatres.

We teach improv too. That doesn’t mean we tell you what to say or do. We give you the tools to build your confidence, liberate your imagination, and become more spontaneous. Classes started in 2003, and now The Suggestibles’ School of Improv is the longest running training ground for improvisers in the UK. We run improv courses for people from all walks of life, and present regular showcases for those who want to get into performing. Learning to improvise is loads of fun. We work nationally and internationally to provide improv-based training programmes, tailored for business and corporate clients, educational, theatrical and cultural organisations. From one-off events to year-long projects, we deliver workshops that help solve problems, improve performance, creativity, communication and teamwork - often preceded or followed by a special show. The six members of the Suggestibles are Bev Fox and Ian McLaughlin (who direct and manage the company), Carl Kennedy, Rachel Glover, Tom Walton and Alex Ross (our one-man improvising orchestra). We’re all performing and teaching artists with the company. From time to time, we invite special ‘Guestibles’ for shows, and bring on board more improv teachers for workshops and training events, from our network of UK improvisers.

To celebrate our 15th anniversary year, we produced the first ever Newcastle Improv Festival last summer, which brought together national improv artists for nine days and nights of improvisation, across five venues. The festival attracted people from across the UK and Europe. It was a truly magnificent time and plans are in motion for NiF20.
